Report “Responsible Business in Poland 2008. Good practices”

The Responsible Business Forum has presented its annual  report - “Responsible Business in Poland 2008. Good practices”  This year’s edition contains record number of 88 most interesting corporate good practices in 4 areas: workplace, marketplace, community and environment.  In addition, the Report contains experts’ statements, research results review on ecological awareness and on media responsibility, press monitoring, and CSR events’ calendar.

“Responsible Business in Poland 2008” shows that more and more companies in Poland are implementing CSR strategies and projects. This year the Responsible Business Forum received record number of good practices, out of which 88 most valuable and interesting were selected. We hope that good practices presented in the Report 2008  will inspire other companies and will show the responsible side of Polish business – Mirella Panek-Owsiańska, President of the Responsible Business Forum wrote in the introduction to the Report.

The Report shows also rising interest of Polish media in corporate social responsibility.  In the year 2008 nearly 830 articles concerning CSR were published in Polish press – that’s more than twice as much as last year. What’s more not only economic magazines and mainstream media but also local newspapers are interested in this subject. We may also observe a rising number of researches, publications, conferences and other initiatives concerning different aspects of responsible business.

Good practices
A core element of the publication are corporate good practices. From more than 150 received practices the Responsible Business Forum selected 88 examples of CSR activities of 77 companies. Most good practices (35) were carried out in the area „Business versus community”. 25 initiatives concern environment, 16  - workplace and 12 – marketplace.

Major conclusions:

Workplace – Companies try to address needs of pregnant women and young parents, creating them comfortable work environment and possibilities to keep work-life balance. Companies are also concentrating on making their business activities more efficient by improving communications, employees’ participation and implementation of certifiable management standards. Good practices include also activities in the area of employees education, diversity management, creating and maintaining workplaces.

Marketplace – The number of CSR initiatives addressed to consumer, suppliers and business partners is consecutively increasing. Companies are also conducting programs to develop entrepreneurship and are implementing strict standard for responsible marketing communications.

Community
– Most practices concentrate around health and safety. Many companies are also active in the areas of financial education, community investment and corporate volunteering. What’s more there’re many initiatives that aim at giving equal chances to marginalized groups of the community.

Environment – This year the number of good practices in the area of the environment rose rapidly. Most of initiatives concentrated on the climate change. The Report presents examples of educational programs addressed especially to the employees, activities aimed at reduction of water, energy and paper use as well as waste management and renewable energy programs.
